Home Gym Cleaning Tips | Keep Your Equipment Like New

One of the major benefits of having a home gym is avoiding the sweaty seats and strangers’ germs. But that doesnโ€™t mean that you donโ€™t have to clean your gym equipment. Your home gym equipment still needs to be wiped down and cleaned regularly for good hygiene.

Itโ€™s quick and easy to do, so stop avoiding it.

How to clean your home gym equipment:

Whether itโ€™s a medicine ball, weights, treadmill, elliptical or other machine, the method we use is the same:

  • Give everything a thorough vacuuming (USA) (Canada) with a horsehair brush (USA) (Canada). Get in all the nooks and crannies.
  • Mix up a batch of:
    • 1 gallon hot water,ย
    • โ…“ cup of bleach, andย
    • 1 tsp powdered Tideยฎ (USA) (Canada)
  • Wipe everything down. Pay special attention to handles and seats.
Pro tip: Wear clothes that can get bleach stained and watch for drips!ย
  • For any machines with screens:
    • Use a damp carbon cloth (USA) (Canada) to wipe down the screen, or use a product specifically designed for electronic screens like we did in this video:

How to clean home gym flooring:

Regular flooring, rubber gym flooring, or yoga mats are all cleaned in the same manner:

  • Vacuum to the best of your ability. If your floor matts are getting sucked into your vacuum head, turn down the suction.ย
  • Mop using our hot water, bleach, and powdered Tideยฎ recipe (above). We find that some rubber flooring really grips onto our mops so it makes it hard to glide over the surface. If yours is particularly grippy, put some muscle into it with the mop, or you can mop by hand using a cloth.ย

How to clean mirrors:

  • Option 1: Windexยฎ (USA) (Canada). Spray your whole mirror and then wipe it down using paper towels, a microfiber rag, or a carbon cloth.ย
  • Option 2: Blue Dawnยฎ (USA) (Canada) and a squeegee. This method works really well if you have a haze on your mirrors. Mix a good squeeze of blue Dawnยฎ dish soap and some hot water, apply it to the mirror with a cloth or squeegee, then use the squeegee to wipe it down. Give it a final polish with paper towels or a carbon cloth to get rid of any streaks.
