The Best Product For Cleaning Greasy Handprints

Tired of greasy handprints on your walls and doors? Our go-to cleaning solution of hot water, bleach, and powdered Tide®, is effective for most cleaning jobs (read this article to learn more about our recipes), but we’ve discovered an even better way to remove those greasy fingerprints!

We all know you need a degreaser to clean grease; that’s a given. And while powdered Tide® does contain surfactants, we’ve found that our usual mixture, with or without bleach, just doesn’t quite cut it on the greasy handprints left by toddlers (or those who act like them). We’re not talking about built-up kitchen grease, but rather those shiny spots you notice as you walk down the hall.

The Best Product:

We love Mr. Clean® as a degreaser, and in this case we recommend Mr. Clean® Clean Freak (USA) (Canada). Lemon Zest scent is our favorite, but you do you: any scent will do. It’s awesome for greasy fingerprints.

When you buy through our links, we may earn a small commission.

Because it’s less concentrated than regular Mr.Clean®, it can be used on lots of different surfaces like: walls of all paint grades and textures, doors, picture frames, stainless steel, and stone. It truly is a game changer for household cleaning.

Pro Tip: Always do a test spot in a hidden area to be sure your cleaning products won’t damage your surfaces.

Easy Cleaning Directions:

  1. Spray the entire wall or just the greasy spots with Mr. Clean® Clean Freak.
    1. Squeeze the trigger for target practice, or pump continuously for larger areas.
    2. You will see the product stick to the handprints and sometimes can even make out fingerprints. Maybe we could be hired for True Crime Podcasts after all!
  2. Wipe the surface with a warm, damp microfiber cloth.
  3. For stubborn grime, repeat. No need to dry.
  4. Some surfaces may need polishing with Windex® (USA) (Canada) or a carbon cloth (USA) (Canada) afterward.
